Formby Surveys make continual efforts to stay at the forefront of surveying technology by integrating new equipment that will improve our service offering wherever possible.

It’s no secret that, in recent years, UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles) have become incredibly popular, being adopted by aerial photographers to capture impressive video footage of cityscapes, measuring wildlife in rainforest environments and more commonly reported, by Amazon, who are building prototypes to enhance their delivery services.

Our new UAV, the DJI Phantom 4 is the smartest flying camera DJI has ever produced. Its ability to fly intelligently, automatically creating seamless tracking photos, flying over or around obstacles make it a fantastic addition to our growing list of technology.

The UAV enables us to undertake projects which require high resolution aerial photography / video to compliment existing surveying services of places that previously would have been too difficult for our surveyors to reach.  UAV Aerial Surveys can also supplement our 360° Photography services, exhibiting not only the interior of buildings such as hotels and restaurants, but also capturing the building’s exterior.

Operating a UAV commercially requires structured training, ensuring that the Phantom 4 is flown safely and correctly. In order to comply, our Operations Director, John Ormesher and Revit Technician, Sean Withe are both undergoing UAV operating training and assessments that are soon to be complete.

Adding UAV surveys to our continually growing range of services and implementing UAV technology into our roster of technology is a significant move for Formby Surveys. It enables us to work with new clients and offer an improved range of services to our existing clients.  In addition we have a strategic partnership in place with Geoterra for undertaking work that requires heavy lift UAVs or fixed wing aircraft, meaning we are able to cover all aspects of UAV work.
