The importance of a surveyor can never be overly emphasised; incorporating a surveyor in any project is a necessary step to be taken in every house renovation, building development or shop re-fit, the list is almost endless.

Having your project properly surveyed helps establish property boundaries. Not only can mistakes involving encroachments and easements slow down your project’s completion time and cause legal problems, they can also cost thousands in additional construction requirements. All of this makes a surveyor an integral element that simply can’t be ignored.

What we’re interested in knowing is what makes a good surveyor? There’s no doubt that the position requires good problem-solving skills, the ability to interpret data, the ability to work as part of a team and the capabilities to work to a high degree of accuracy, but what makes a surveyor stand above the rest? What are survey companies looking for when they’re looking for the ideal candidate?

Our thoughts on this are that a good surveyor must have the ability to have an excellent situational awareness, continually wanting to be challenged. When looking for new surveyors, we look for someone who is a quick thinker, someone who can anticipates a client’s requirements and responds to them with a pleasant demeanour (even if sometimes, those requests can be a little too much to initially comprehend) putting their heart in to their work and be as passionate about surveying as what we are.

We look for surveyors who can quickly become part of our team, someone who is pleasant and approachable not only to our clients but also to our employees, an individual who can evaluate their progression honestly, constantly striving to improve their work, learning and assessing themselves along the way.

So there you have it, that’s what we think makes a great surveyor, essentially, someone who knows and loves what they’ve trained to become, immersing themselves in anything they can do to further achieve and meet the requirements of our clients.
